Find the strength to resist temptations – RED RIBBON WEEK

Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God……

In Matthew Chapter 26, verse 41, its says “Stay awake and pray that you won’t be tested. You want to do what is right, but you are weak.”  Although this is a simple verse, its speaks about the many temptations that we are faced with from day to day.  In the simplest terms, resisting temptation is not easy. The media, peer pressure, and the desire to fit in are three major forms of temptation, all of which we experience many times per day.  Also, many of these things that we are tempted to try are readily available at a moment’s notice, increasing the difficulty to resist. Though there are many things pointing towards giving in to temptation, God points towards enduring.  In Romans Chapter 5, it says, “More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” As we reflect upon making good decisions through this red ribbon week, understand that resisting temptation is no easy feat, and that the reward for doing so is greater than that of giving in.

Let us pray,

Dear Lord, please help us to find the strength to resist temptations as we approach Halloween and the holiday season.  Guide us as we are faced with tough decisions, and lead us to make the right choices. Help us as we stumble along our path, and keep our focus on You, Lord.
